For the first time in 25 years, the McKinnon Park Blue Devils will have a girls basketball team competing at the OFSAA championships.
Playing in the CWOSSA AA championships at Galt Collegiate Institute, the Blue Devils defeated the Holy Trinity Titans 54-33 in the final. Mikayla Nelson led the way with 22 points, while Averie Marciniak had 18. Charli Babin scored 14, and Sweed Babin added nine for the Titans.
The Blue Devils opened the tournament with a 52-26 win over St. Mary’s, followed by a 50-14 win over Westside. They earned a spot in the championship game against the Titans thanks to a 47-40 win over Our Lady of Lourdes.
The AABHN South champion Titans defeated Our Lady of Lourdes. 35-33 in their opener, before defeating John Diefenbaker Senior School 37-22. In the semifinal, the Titans edged St. David 44-43.
The Blue Devils will now compete at the OFSAA AA basketball championships beginning Thursday at St. James Catholic High School in Guelph.
